“He was funny, kind, caring and considerate at home, work, and with his friends.

“David was so much loved by all who knew him.

“He has left a massive hole in our hearts – we are devastated by his loss.”

The crash happened around 11.40pm, near Rivington Services.

Officers are investigating what happened and they continue to appeal for witnesses.

The motorway was closed throughout the day as police launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

At the time Sgt Kasim Hussain of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “This collision has very sadly seen a young man lose his life and my thoughts first and foremost are with his family and loved ones and this distressing time.

“As part of the investigation, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.

“If anyone was driving on the M61 near the scene of the collision and has dashcam footage, we want to hear from them.”
